33-year-old joiner, Lokanath Maharana, was arrested on Sunday for his involvement in the theft of jewelry and other household items from an apartment. The incident occurred on February 7 while the occupants of the apartment were away.
According to S. Dev Datta Singh, Commissioner of Police, Maharana had been hired to carry out some repair work in the apartment on the day of the theft. While the owners were absent, he took the opportunity to steal valuable items, including jewelry and other household goods.
After the theft, the police launched an investigation and were able to recover all the stolen items, which were valued at around Rs 4 lakh. Maharana was apprehended, and police revealed that he had a history of involvement in criminal activities, including a previous theft case in the Balianta area in May of the previous year.
The authorities are now working on further investigations to determine if there are any other victims or ongoing criminal activities related to the accused.
