Johnny Phillips, 46, of Steele, Missouri, was sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison for a shooting incident that occurred in November 2017 in Kennett, Missouri. Phillips was convicted of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. A jury found him guilty in November.
The incident began with an argument between Phillips and the victim at a residence in Kennett, which escalated to a second argument on Washington Street. During the second confrontation, Phillips pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the chest. The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The shooting prompted an investigation by Kennett police, Gosnell police, and the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office. Phillips’ conviction and sentence reflect the severity of his actions.
