John H. Joseph II, Two Others Arrested in Joplin Drug Bust

Joplin, Mo. (KOAM) – Three individuals were arrested on Wednesday afternoon following a drug trafficking operation in a parking lot near 50th and South Main, according to the Joplin Police Department.

Detectives with the Flex Platoon observed a hand-to-hand drug transaction involving three people. Two suspects were seated inside a Ford Explorer, while the third was standing nearby. When officers moved in, the driver attempted to flee but was quickly stopped, and all three individuals were detained.

The suspects were identified as John H. Joseph II (54), Kenneth W. Heistand (66), and Kayla M. Hayes (34), all of Joplin.

A search of Joseph’s person and vehicle uncovered 12.3 grams of suspected fentanyl and a 9mm firearm reported stolen in 2016.

John H. Joseph II – Trafficking Drugs (First Degree), Unlawful Use of Weapons, and Stealing
Kenneth W. Heistand – Trafficking Drugs (First Degree), Resisting or Interfering with Arrest
Kayla M. Hayes – Trafficking Drugs (First Degree)
All charges were submitted by Joplin Police and filed by the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
