John Gary Arrested in Fatal Moped Crash in Columbus

John Gary, 39, has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash in Columbus that involved a moped and a vehicle.

The victim, 57-year-old Edith Opry, was the operator of the moped and tragically died from her injuries at a nearby hospital.

According to the Columbus Police Department, Gary was behind the wheel of the other vehicle involved in the crash, which took place on November 11 near Macon and Reese Road.

Gary has been charged with second-degree homicide by vehicle, following too closely, and speeding. The Columbus Police Department’s Motor Squad Unit is investigating the incident.

Gary is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, December 3, at 8 a.m.
