The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested John Demont Mickens on Thursday night, charged with robbing a store on Camden Highway. At approximately 9:27 p.m., SCSO received a call about the robbery, prompting deputies to respond to the scene immediately. As part of their investigation, deputies began searching for the vehicle that was believed to have been used by the suspect.
A deputy soon spotted a vehicle matching the suspect’s description and followed it, requesting backup units. Upon confirming that the vehicle’s tag and description matched those of the suspect’s car, SCSO deputies and Sumter Police officers coordinated a felony traffic stop near a home on Houck Street.
During the stop, deputies observed evidence linked to the robbery, leading to Mickens’ arrest. A search of his vehicle revealed further evidence connecting him to the robbery on Camden Highway.
Mickens was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing. Authorities noted that Mickens is also under investigation for crimes in multiple jurisdictions.
