Joel Quinonez, 23, of Compton, California, has been sentenced to 16 months in jail for his involvement in an automobile theft ring that targeted newer-model vehicles across Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Quinonez and his accomplices stole cars in October and November 2024, using tools to electronically unlock and operate the vehicles. Authorities discovered the thefts after conducting searches at the homes of Quinonez and an unidentified juvenile accomplice, leading to their arrests.
At the time of the crimes, Quinonez was already on probation in Los Angeles County for felony grand theft auto. Following his arrest, he pled guilty to one felony count of auto theft on January 13, 2025. On February 11, 2025, Quinonez was sentenced to 16 months in Ventura County Jail.
Ventura County District Attorney Katherine Plante, who prosecuted the case, stressed the significance of the sentence, stating, “This sentencing sends a clear message: Organized crime targeting our community will not go unanswered.” She emphasized that auto theft rings disrupt local businesses, harm families, and fuel other criminal activity.
The investigation and subsequent prosecution reflect law enforcement’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
