The Jigawa State Police Command has successfully arrested multiple suspects in connection with a range of criminal activities, including fraud, cybercrime, armed robbery, and vehicle theft.
According to a press release from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, these arrests follow the diligent efforts of the police operatives in the state. Among those arrested was 23-year-old Usman Ahmed, who was detained on December 14, 2024, during a routine patrol along the Gagarawa Road. Ahmed, a resident of Hotoro quarters in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, was found in possession of an unregistered Daylong motorcycle. When questioned, he failed to provide a valid explanation for his possession of the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that Ahmed and his accomplices had hired a cyclist, Dini Idris, under the false pretense of traveling to Sahara Hotel in Gumel. Upon arrival, the suspects attacked Idris, injuring him with a bottle and a knife. Idris was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital for medical treatment. Ahmed later confessed to the crime during interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse.
In another incident, Auwalu Mohammed reported the theft of his ATM card, which was used to withdraw N1.5 million. The suspect, Mustapha Ibrahim, was apprehended, and N600,000 was recovered. Ibrahim has been identified by two victims, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.
Additionally, a stolen Hilux vehicle, belonging to the Primary Health Care Cold Store in Dutse, was intercepted at the Dankama border in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State. Investigations continue as authorities work to locate the remaining suspects involved.
DSP Adam emphasized that all arrested suspects will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He commended the police operatives for their hard work and urged the public to continue supporting the police in their efforts to combat crime. The command also assured residents of its commitment to maintaining safety and tackling criminal activities in the state.
