OCALA, Fla. – Jiaan Cao, 33, is in custody after attempting to scam an elderly victim out of more than $50,000. Deputies say Cao posed as a federal agent to manipulate the 82-year-old victim into purchasing thousands of dollars worth of gold.
Cao allegedly traveled across the country to pick up the gold, convincing the victim that it was necessary for an urgent matter. However, investigators intervened before the scam could be completed, arresting Cao upon his arrival.
He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where his bond is set at $250,000.
