Jeremiah West Arrested in Murder of Columbus Teen Elijah Hatcher

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 15-year-old Elijah Hatcher.

Jeremiah West, the alleged shooter, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Celia Drive on Wednesday, just before 8:30 a.m., following reports of a shooting. Officers found Hatcher with a gunshot wound and rushed him to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m.

West is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
