Jaylin Brewster Charged with Robbery and Battery After Assaulting Officers

CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against 20-year-old Jaylin Brewster after he allegedly assaulted officers during his arrest, following his involvement in the robbery of two Chicago Fire Department (CFD) employees who were responding to an emergency call.

Brewster faces two felony counts of aggravated robbery with the indication that he was armed, as well as two counts of aggravated battery against a peace officer. These charges stem from an incident early Monday morning, around 2 a.m., in Auburn Gresham, Chicago.

According to police, Brewster approached the two CFD employees while they were responding to a call in the 7900 block of South Throop Street. He allegedly told the firefighters that he was armed with a firearm before stealing an unknown amount of cash from them. However, the firefighters managed to overpower Brewster and held him until police arrived.

When officers arrived and attempted to arrest Brewster, they claimed he assaulted them during the arrest. While the extent of the officers’ injuries is not yet clear, the two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the robbery. No weapon was found on Brewster at the time of his arrest, according to police reports.

Brewster appeared in court on Wednesday for a detention hearing where the charges were presented. Further legal proceedings are expected as the case moves forward.
