Jaylan Lawrence Arrested for Setting Fires Along Cayce Riverwalk

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Jaylan Lawrence has been arrested in connection with a string of arson incidents targeting the Cayce Riverwalk and nearby businesses, according to the Cayce Police Department.

Authorities say Lawrence was taken into custody early Friday morning with the assistance of the Cayce Fire Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

He faces a total of 20 charges, including:

4 counts of burglary

16 counts of burning the land of another

The charges are linked to multiple fires reported during March and April of this year, which affected public walkways and commercial properties in the Cayce area.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, but Lawrence is believed to be responsible for the series of suspicious fires that prompted concerns throughout the local community.
