After a manhunt lasting 15 years, Jawad Jabbar, the prime suspect in a murder case, was apprehended by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) unit of the MBVV police. Jabbar, who had been evading capture since 2011, was arrested from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh and brought to Vasai on transit remand. He was subsequently presented in court.
Jawad Jabbar, aged 46, was accused of bludgeoning his wife, Rehana, to death during a violent argument in May 2011. The motive for the crime was his hatred for her children from a previous marriage. Following the brutal murder, Jabbar fled the scene and remained untraceable for years.
To avoid detection, Jabbar used a fake identity and refrained from using a mobile phone. He had managed to stay under the radar by blending in and working as an embroiderer, similar to his occupation when he was living in Nalasopara. He was even known by a different name, “Guddu,” during his time on the run.
A dedicated seven-member team was assigned to track down Jabbar, with the cooperation of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF). After months of investigation and tips from local informants, the team located Jabbar in Unnao. He was arrested on January 25, 2025, and transported back to Vasai for further legal proceedings.
Authorities are now focusing on how Jabbar forged documents to live undetected for so long. The police are also investigating his activities during the years he spent in hiding.
