Javed and Shahid Arrested in Mandi Robbery Case

In a significant breakthrough, the Mandi Police have arrested Javed and Shahid (alias Chatiphata) in connection with a robbery case reported at the BSL Colony Police Station, Sundernagar, on May 11. The accused duo had allegedly barged into a house in Naya Bazaar, Sundernagar, in broad daylight, held the residents at gunpoint, and made off with jewellery and cash.

According to Mandi SP Sakshi Verma, the robbers had locked the victims in a room before fleeing the scene. They used a stolen motorcycle, which was taken from Mandi on May 9, to execute the robbery just two days later. A separate FIR was registered for the motorcycle theft at Mandi Sadar Police Station.

The Mandi Police quickly sprang into action and sent a team to Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where the accused were apprehended. The Uttar Pradesh Police had previously arrested Javed and Shahid in multiple criminal cases. The police have managed to recover the stolen motorcycle, though the looted jewellery and cash are still missing.

SP Verma confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. “We are working on tracing the stolen goods and will continue with the investigation,” she said.

A similar robbery had occurred earlier on March 22, at Pulgharat in Mandi, where two motorcycle-borne assailants shot at a local eatery owner, before fleeing with Rs6,000, an LED, and a CCTV DVR. Following the incident, police arrested Azam (20) and Azmal (24) from Muzaffarnagar and recovered a country-made pistol and cartridges from their rented accommodation.

The investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
