Jaturong Arrested for Robbing Grab Driver in Bangkok

In a dramatic turn of events, a 37-year-old man, identified as Jaturong, was arrested by police in Bangkok after orchestrating a robbery of a Grab driver in the Lat Krabang area. The suspect’s robbery plan, which began as a seemingly normal ride request, ended when he threatened the driver with a weapon and made off with the driver’s belongings.

The incident took place on November 12, 2024, at around 2:30 p.m., when the driver reported being assaulted and robbed by Jaturong. According to the driver, he had picked up Jaturong as a passenger from Pattaya, who asked to be dropped off at the Eua Arthorn Romklao building in Bangkok. Upon arrival at the parking lot, Jaturong suddenly pulled out a one-bladed pair of scissors and threatened the driver at knifepoint, demanding that he hand over his possessions.

Jaturong then stole a black shoulder bag from the driver, which contained personal documents, a bank passbook, a damaged wallet, and approximately 1,300 baht in cash. After the attack, the suspect fled the scene, leaving the driver shaken but unharmed.

Following the robbery, the victim immediately contacted the police, and a swift investigation was launched. The police managed to locate the stolen items in the back seat of the victim’s car, with surveillance footage confirming that Jaturong, wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, and white sandals, was the perpetrator. Police also discovered that Jaturong had a history of drug-related offenses.

The investigation revealed that after the robbery, Jaturong fled the scene and attempted to hide his identity. He changed his clothes and shoes at a nearby Kriangkrai Building 12 before discarding the stolen bag in a friend’s room. His actions were intended to confuse law enforcement, but police managed to track him down using surveillance footage and witness testimony.

Officers found Jaturong hiding in the room of a known group of friends with a history of drug offenses. They seized the stolen items and arrested the suspect, who was taken into custody for further questioning. Jaturong now faces charges of robbery, with additional scrutiny of his criminal background related to drug activities.

The authorities’ quick response and thorough investigation have led to the successful capture of the suspect, bringing some relief to the victim and the community. The stolen items were handed over to investigators, and further legal action will be taken against Jaturong.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the dangers that can emerge during seemingly routine activities and the importance of swift law enforcement action to prevent further harm.
