Mifflinburg, Pa. — Jasper Pierce Faircloth, 23, of Mifflinburg, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly forging a woman’s signature and cashing seven bad checks totaling $3,800 between October 4 and October 9.
Sgt. Tracy Fetterman of the Mifflinburg Police Department was called to the Service First Credit Union after the bank discovered the fraudulent checks had been cashed via mobile deposit. The credit union reached out to Faircloth when his account went into the negatives, but he reportedly hung up on them and removed his contact number.
On October 11, Faircloth tried to “make good” by depositing $1,050, but after overdraft fees, the credit union was still out $2,960. The victim, whose checks Faircloth had stolen, told police she had no knowledge of the forgeries but was suspicious of his spending habits.
Upon questioning, Faircloth admitted to taking the checks, forging the woman’s signature, and using the stolen money to buy methamphetamine, bongs, and a virtual reality headset.
Faircloth is charged with seven felony counts of forgery, seven misdemeanor counts of bad checks, felony theft, and felony receiving stolen property. District Judge Jeffrey Mensch set his bail at $25,000 unsecured.
