CASSVILLE, W.Va. (WDTV) – Authorities have arrested two individuals, Jason Pancoast, 31, and Ashley Hoskins, 34, following an extensive investigation into a series of mail thefts in Monongalia County. The thefts, which occurred in multiple local communities, led to several fraudulent activities, including the forging of checks and the use of stolen credit/debit cards.

The thefts took place primarily in the areas of Cassville, Maidsville, and Route 100, affecting neighborhoods like Pedlar Run, Jakes Run, Mel Brand Road, and others. According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, stolen personal checks were altered and deposited into the suspects’ bank accounts, causing significant financial loss for victims.

The investigation, aided by surveillance footage, quickly identified Pancoast and Hoskins as the suspects. On November 9, they were apprehended during a traffic stop. Both individuals were charged with multiple felonies, including forgery, fraudulent schemes, and conspiracy.

Although the two suspects have been released on personal recognizance (PR) bonds, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are continuing to follow up on leads and expect additional arrests. Local residents are being urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to mail theft.
