Jammu & Kashmir Police Seize 6kg Heroin in Major Drug Bust

In a major narcotics operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police seized six kilograms of heroin in the Rajouri district on Friday. The drugs, valued at over Rs 30 crore in the international market, were recovered from Sair Bhawani village near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector.

This recovery followed the arrest of Jaswinder Kumar, the alleged kingpin of the drug racket. Kumar, also known as Sonu, had been apprehended earlier this month on the basis of an investigation into a narcotics case registered last year. His arrest led to the discovery of the heroin stash.

Two additional suspects, Ashok Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, both residents of Sair Bhawani, were also arrested during the operation. Together, they have been linked to the smuggling network, contributing to the total haul of 11.3 kg of narcotics, including a 5.3 kg seizure made last year involving two other drug peddlers, Sajan Kumar and Subash Chander.

The police confirmed that Jaswinder Kumar had been on the run for over a year, facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. During interrogation, Kumar revealed that the heroin was being smuggled from Pakistan by operatives connected to him, along with his arrested associates.

The authorities continue to investigate the source of the heroin and the wider network of drug smugglers in the region.
