Jalandhar Police arrested four individuals, including three women, and seized 150 Etizolam tablets and 49 Tramadol tablets in a special operation in Phillaur as part of an intensified anti-drug campaign. The arrested individuals have been identified as Dharminder Singh, who was operating an unlicensed medicine shop in Landhra village, and Jyoti, Preeti, and Monika.
SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh confirmed that the operation targeted drug traffickers, with a particular focus on those distributing prescription medication without proper authorization. Police set up a checkpoint on Wednesday, where they intercepted a van and seized the drugs.
“This case is significant due to the involvement of repeat offenders and an unlicensed chemist illegally distributing controlled substances,” SSP Khakh said, emphasizing the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region.
The police also revealed that Jyoti has seven prior cases under the NDPS Act, pointing to her continued involvement in narcotics trafficking. The SSP also noted a concerning trend in drug trafficking, where female operatives are increasingly being used to evade police scrutiny.
A case has been registered under Sections 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act at the Phillaur Police station, and the vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.
