Jaipur Police Arrest Two in ₹17 Lakh Digital Arrest Scam

The Jaipur City Police’s Cyber Crime Unit arrested two suspects, Mustafa and Arshad, on Friday for allegedly defrauding a female bank manager of Rs17 lakh using a digital arrest scam. The fraud, which occurred two weeks ago, saw the victim fall prey to a cybercrime scheme that involved fake threats and manipulation.

According to SHO Shravan Kumar, the victim, a bank manager, received a call from an individual claiming to be from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The caller informed her that a SIM card had been issued using her Aadhaar card and was being misused for illegal activities. The scammer threatened the woman with legal consequences, claiming that her identity had been compromised and that she would face arrest unless she transferred a large sum of money.

Under duress, the victim was convinced to transfer Rs17 lakh into the fraudsters’ bank accounts. Following the woman’s complaint, the Jaipur Police launched an investigation. With the help of the victim’s bank, they traced the bank accounts to which the money had been sent.

The police arrested the two main suspects, Mustafa and Arshad, and are continuing to interrogate them to uncover other members of the criminal network. The investigation is focused on analyzing the call details of the suspects’ mobile phones and the transaction details of their bank accounts in an attempt to expose the full extent of the scam.

This case is part of a worrying trend, with four similar digital arrest scams having been reported to the Jaipur Police recently. The fraudsters are using this tactic to manipulate and extort money from vulnerable victims by threatening them with fake arrests and legal actions.
