In a major drug bust, the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Jahangir Sheikh (29) and Senual Sheikh (28) from the Dadar area, seizing 5 kg and 40 grams of Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant. The total value of the seized contraband is estimated at Rs10.08 crore in the international market.
The operation was led by encounter specialist Daya Nayak, based on intelligence received from a senior police officer. Acting swiftly on a tip-off, the Crime Branch Unit 9 raided a guest house near Dadar Railway Station. As the team moved in, the suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended. A thorough search led to the recovery of the drugs, which fall under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as a commercial quantity.
Following the seizure, a case was filed at Matunga Police Station under Sections 8(C), 22(C), and 29 of the NDPS Act. The investigation is now being handled by Crime Branch Unit 9 to trace the broader network involved in the illicit drug trade.
Mephedrone (MD), known for its stimulant and euphoric effects, has gained popularity in the illegal drug market, despite its severe health risks like paranoia, hallucinations, and addiction. The Crime Branch is working to identify other individuals connected to this drug network and uncover its larger operations.
Daya Nayak, renowned for his crucial role in fighting organized crime in Mumbai, continues to lead the city’s fight against drug-related crimes, as his team focuses on dismantling the syndicates behind such illicit activities.
