BELFAST, Maine (WABI) – A Lincolnville man has been arrested on domestic violence and criminal threatening charges after a tense standoff at a motel in Belfast late Wednesday night.
Incident Details
Police responded to a motel on Searsport Avenue around 8 p.m. after receiving a distress call. A woman emerged from one of the rooms, telling officers that her boyfriend, Jacob McFarland, 31, was inside with a weapon.
She reported that for the past three days, McFarland had threatened to kill her with a knife if she contacted the police. He also allegedly expressed intentions of confronting law enforcement in hopes of “suicide by cop.”
Prior Arrest and Restraining Order
The woman also informed police that McFarland had been recently arrested for domestic violence against her and was under a court order prohibiting contact with her.
Police Standoff and Arrest
After securing the victim’s safety, officers attempted to negotiate with McFarland for several hours.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., police took McFarland into custody. Before being booked, he was first transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding McFarland’s bail or upcoming court appearance.
