Ishak Ahmed Held for Rs25 Cr GST Fraud in Assam

The Assam State GST Department has arrested Ishak Ahmed, Director of Khushi Digital Payment Private Limited, in connection with a massive Rs25 crore GST fraud involving fake billing and bogus Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims.

Acting on instructions from the Guwahati Head Office, the Silchar unit of the AGST (Assam Goods and Services Tax) conducted a raid on Ahmed’s business premises in Pailapool, Lakhipur, on June 14. The team seized a large volume of incriminating documents and computer systems suspected to contain evidence of fraudulent transactions.

Authorities stated that Ahmed failed to provide authentic documentation for business transactions worth over Rs100 crore. This led to his arrest on Tuesday. According to Assistant Commissioner Ronit Roy, the department has uncovered fake ITC worth Rs15 crore, while an additional Rs10 crore of fraudulent ITC was passed on to companies in other states.

Officials suspect that the fraud was carried out using fake invoices to claim ITC without actual supply of goods or services. The investigation into the broader network involved in the scam is ongoing, and more arrests may follow.

The AGST department reiterated its commitment to cracking down on GST evasion and protecting public revenue.
