Isakov Akhmad Convicted of Attempted Murder in Stratford Assault

A 42-year-old man has been convicted of attempted murder following a violent assault in Stratford that left the victim with life-altering injuries.

Isakov Akhmad, of Thorogood Gardens, E15, was found guilty on December 4 at Snaresbrook Crown Court for attacking his housemate, Firuz Raupov, with a dumbbell during an argument.

The assault took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, at the home the two men shared in Stratford. The victim, a man in his 40s, sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to an East London hospital, where doctors confirmed his injuries were life-changing.

Quick Response by Police

Police acted swiftly, locating and arresting Akhmad just three hours after the attack. Their rapid response was followed by an extensive investigation, which included collecting forensic evidence, speaking to witnesses, and building a strong case against Akhmad. He was officially charged with attempted murder on June 15.

Police Statement

Detective Constable Sorcha Homer from the North East Local Investigations Unit expressed satisfaction with the trial’s outcome:

“This was a traumatic and violent incident. It’s highly gratifying to see justice served for the victim and his family, with a dangerous individual now facing a significant prison sentence.”

Sentencing Pending

Akhmad remains in custody and will be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on March 31, 2025.
