Inter-State Jewelry Theft Gang Busted 10 Arrested in Mohali

In a major breakthrough, the Mohali police have successfully dismantled an inter-state jewelry theft syndicate, arresting 10 individuals, including six women, and recovering 92 grams of gold, 1.85 kg of silver jewelry, and two vehicles from their possession.

The arrested members, identified as Ashia (55), Ziada (55), Asmeen (35), Mehrunisa (65), Nargis (42), Khatoon (56), Sajid (34), Munne Khan (45), Nazim (45), and Insar (55), hail from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. They have been implicated in a series of thefts spanning across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Talwinder Singh, the gang had a well-organized modus operandi. The women members of the gang carried duplicate jewelry, which they would swap with original ornaments at jewelry shops. Meanwhile, the male members kept watch outside or in nearby areas to ensure a swift escape once the theft was completed.

The gang was apprehended on October 4 when they were intercepted in two separate cars, one from Panchkula and the other from Uttar Pradesh. The breakthrough came after the gang targeted a jewelry shop in Kurali on September 15. Police used CCTV footage to track the gang’s movements and coordinate their arrest.

This operation highlights the efficiency of the Mohali Police in tackling organized crime and recovering stolen valuables, with further investigations underway to uncover more details about the gang’s activities across various states.
