In a major breakthrough, the North Zone Task Force and Mahankali Police have successfully dismantled a gang involved in the fabrication and sale of fake documents since 2015. The gang had reportedly created and sold an estimated 50,000 fake voter ID cards, 30,000 Aadhaar cards, 1,250 fake passports, and 2,000 birth certificates, among other bogus documents.
On Thursday, the police seized a range of items from the gang, including Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, 557 fake voter ID cards, 300 fake attested documents, 180 signature forms, 40 fake Aadhaar cards, and 50 fake birth certificates. Additionally, 100 pre-printed birth certificates and fake documents to obtain passports were recovered, along with biometric equipment used for Aadhaar corrections and other related materials.
The police identified the key accused as Yelgam Raj Kumar, Md Mahboob, Rachamalla Vijayalaxmi, Kurapati Pallavi, Bandi Shankar, and Giriraj Anil Kumar. Raj Kumar, the alleged mastermind behind the racket, was reportedly the managing director of RS Online Service Centre and ran the operation with the help of his associates, producing fake documents for clients in exchange for money.
Following their arrest, the accused were handed over to Mahankali Police, who later remanded them to Chanchalguda Central Prison. According to Task Force DCP Y.V.S. Sudheendra, the police are investigating the full extent of the gang’s operations, as they suspect the group had a far-reaching impact on the creation of fraudulent identities across the region.
The arrest is a significant step in curbing the spread of fake documentation and ensuring that individuals involved in such illegal activities face the full force of the law.
