Hyderabad cyber crime police have arrested Pavan Kalyan (38) from Illandhu, Khammam district for defrauding a man out of Rs5.73 lakh under the pretext of offering a data entry job with a Multi-National Company.
The victim filed a complaint with the police on February 8, reporting that he received a call from someone claiming to represent a company offering an online data entry job. The victim believed the offer to be legitimate, agreed to participate, and was informed that he needed to pay a registration fee of Rs2,000 to start the work. After paying the fee, the victim was accused of incorrect typing, and a penalty of Rs1,000 was imposed. The victim continued to make payments for various other reasons, totaling Rs5,73,208. Eventually, Pavan stopped responding to the victim, prompting the complaint.
According to the police, Pavan Kalyan had previously run an internet cafe and was actively searching for job opportunities. He devised a plan to scam people by advertising on the LOKEL app as a consultant manager providing job opportunities. Pavan posed as a consultant manager for a fake company named TQR, promising job seekers jobs if they paid a registration fee. After the victim made the payment, Pavan sent fake job offers to lure more people into the scam.
The police have arrested Pavan Kalyan, who is now facing charges for fraud and cheating. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine if there are other victims of this scam.
