In a disturbing turn of events, Rahul P Gopal has been arrested for assaulting his wife just a month after a high court quashed an FIR in their domestic violence case. The 26-year-old woman was admitted to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital on Monday night with injuries to her face. She was taken to the hospital by her husband, who later left the scene.
The couple, who had reconciled after the court quashed the earlier complaint of domestic violence filed by the woman in May, had been living together at Rahul’s house. The new assault reportedly occurred over a dispute regarding the fish curry she had prepared.
The woman, accompanied by her father, filed a fresh complaint at the Pantheerankavu police station on Tuesday, detailing how Rahul had punched her in the head, chest, and face during the attack. He also reportedly assaulted her inside the ambulance on their way to the hospital.
Based on her complaint, the police arrested Rahul at 1 a.m. on Tuesday under Section 170 of the BNSS, aimed at preventing further criminal activities. Rahul, found in a drunken state at Palazhi, was charged with cruelty towards his wife, attempted culpable homicide, voluntary causing hurt, and criminal intimidation. He was later presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
