Husband and Wife Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges After Roadblock

James and Chaney Manning Charged With Methamphetamine and Oxycodone Possession

by Amelia Crawford

A husband and wife were arrested on drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop at a roadblock in Neshoba County two weeks ago.

James Louis Manning, 35, and Chaney Manning, 21, both of Neshoba County, face multiple charges, including trafficking a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine, oxycodone, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. James Manning also has an active hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a possible parole violation.

The couple was stopped on February 4 when Chaney Manning drove up to a traffic stop on Road 147 near Road 604 in the Hope community. Deputies immediately noticed her shaking and her inability to make eye contact. Upon inspecting the vehicle, they found several used syringes in plain view, which they later confirmed contained methamphetamine.

Further search of the vehicle revealed a black bag containing 50 grams of methamphetamine, a bag of marijuana, three oxycodone pills, and 29 dosage units of morphine. Investigators also suspected the couple had attempted to ingest some of the methamphetamine, as they found shards of the drug in their teeth.

Both suspects had their bonds denied and are currently being held in Neshoba County Jail.
