NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) — Donte Demond Brown, 44, from Houston, was arrested early Tuesday morning after deputies discovered a large amount of drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Nacogdoches.

According to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped Brown’s vehicle in the 3500 block of South Street after observing him speeding through a construction zone on Hwy 59 South.

Upon approaching Brown’s vehicle, deputies reported smelling marijuana, prompting them to question him. Brown denied using drugs and claimed he was not a drug user. However, upon searching the vehicle, deputies found drug paraphernalia and a bag of pills that tested positive for ecstasy.

As the search continued, deputies uncovered a significant amount of drugs, including:

17.36 pounds of ecstasy in 38 individual packages
12 bags of methamphetamine, totaling more than 11.2 ounces
A bag of cocaine, weighing 1.11 pounds
Despite Brown’s denial of drug use, he was charged with three first-degree felonies for possession of a controlled substance. His total bond was set at $240,000, with $80,000 for each charge.

Brown remains in custody as the investigation continues.
