Hong Kong Police Arrest Two Men in Multi-Million Dollar Theft

Hong Kong police have arrested two local men in connection with the theft of electronic lock parts valued at around HK$2 million. The burglary took place on February 10 when a truck parked in a car park on Hoi Bun Road, Kwun Tong, was broken into. The culprits stole five boxes containing smart lock components.

After a thorough investigation and review of security footage, three suspects were identified. On February 18 and 19, two of the suspects were arrested in Lo Wu and Sha Tin. Police also recovered stolen goods worth HK$700,000.

The arrested individuals, a 39-year-old man named Lee, a driver, and a 30-year-old man named Koon, who is unemployed, are currently in police custody. They are expected to be charged and appear in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts on February 21.

A police spokesperson emphasized the need for better vehicle security, advising drivers to lock doors and windows, avoid leaving valuables in cars, and consider installing car cameras. Delivery companies are also encouraged to monitor valuable cargo.

The spokesperson highlighted the crucial role of dashcams and security cameras in solving this case. Since the installation of a new surveillance system in late 2024, these technologies have helped resolve 122 cases, including murder, robbery, and burglary. The system’s implementation has led to a noticeable drop in street crimes, showcasing its effectiveness in preventing criminal activities.
