Two individuals, including a homeopath, were arrested with drugs valued at Rs 5.57 lakh from a hotel in the city, police officials confirmed on Wednesday. The arrested men were allegedly planning to distribute the drugs to young people at New Year parties.
According to DCP (Crime) Rajesh Tripathi, police received a tip-off about the duo’s plan to deliver drugs to partygoers. The men were seen at Hotel Midland Inn, located in the Tulsi Nagar area of Nipania.
A team from the crime branch raided the hotel and apprehended the suspects inside a hotel room. The accused were identified as Yogesh Ladaiya, a resident of Bajrang Nagar, and Bharat Chourasiya, a resident of Rewa. Chourasiya, who worked as the caretaker of the hotel, had been living in the city for three years and had previously worked at other hotels. Ladaiya, a BHMS doctor, was found to be involved in drug consumption as well.
During a search of their room, the police recovered 30.71 grams of MD drugs and 2.47 kilograms of cannabis. The total value of the drugs is estimated to be Rs 5.57 lakh in the international market. Authorities also seized three mobile phones from the suspects and are now analyzing call records to trace other individuals linked to the drug trade.
The arrested men reportedly planned to sell the drugs at inflated prices to partygoers on New Year’s Eve. The investigation is ongoing, and police are verifying the details provided by the suspects.
A case has been filed under the NDPS Act, and further questioning is underway to identify the source of the drugs. Authorities anticipate more arrests in connection with the case.
