Holly Fougere Fired After Embezzlement Arrest in New Hampshire

Kennebunk, Maine — Holly Fougere, who had been appointed as an interim theater teacher at Kennebunk High School, will not receive an employment contract after being arrested on embezzlement charges in New Hampshire. Superintendent Terri Cooper made the announcement on Monday, citing concerns over the uncertainty of the situation.

Fougere, who was to be paid $86,392, was approved for the position by the RSU 21 School Board on January 27. However, just three days later, on January 30, Fougere was arrested at the Conway Police Department in Conway, New Hampshire, on charges of theft and forgery.

Superintendent Cooper stated that, despite the board’s authorization, no formal employment contract had been prepared or signed. She emphasized that Fougere had undergone a thorough hiring process, including background and reference checks, which revealed no disqualifying information at the time.

Fougere, 43, was fired from her position as the chorus and performing arts teacher at Kennett High School in Conway on January 27 after an investigation into her alleged misappropriation of funds. She is accused of diverting checks meant for the performing arts programs into her personal bank account, misappropriating funds exceeding $1,000. She has been charged with theft by misapplication of property and seven counts of forgery, each a Class B felony.

Superintendent Cooper reassured the community, stating that the district prioritizes the safety and well-being of its students, and confirmed that no employment contract had been finalized with Fougere.

Fougere’s LinkedIn profile reveals she spent over 17 years at Kennett High School and worked as a lecturer at Plymouth State University. It was unclear if Fougere has legal representation, as attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.
