Holden, MO — A Holden man, Joseph Pemberton, was arrested last week in connection to the theft of copper wires from internet cables in Johnson County. The 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday, December 11, on felony stealing charges after an investigation into the thefts.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, authorities had received reports of copper cables being stolen from telephone poles along 131 Highway and SW 125 Road. Upon investigation, officers found evidence that the stolen cables had been burned and stripped, pointing to illegal activity.
The Sheriff’s Office was able to gather sufficient evidence leading to Pemberton’s arrest for the theft of the copper wires, which are often targeted for their valuable metal content.
Pemberton is currently facing felony charges of stealing and is expected to appear in court in the coming weeks. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine if others were involved in the thefts.
