A 38-year-old man residing in Bono on an expired visa was arrested recently and is facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his mother-in-law.
Henry Gathuru Ndichu was charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit First-Degree Murder, a Class A felony that could lead to 6 to 30 years in prison. Ndichu appeared before Judge Tommy Fowler for a probable cause hearing, where it was noted that he was living in the U.S. with an expired visa.
On March 16, deputies responded to a stabbing incident at a residence on Country Road 113. Witnesses told authorities that Ndichu had stabbed his mother-in-law in the neck. Deputies arrested him at the scene without incident.
Ndichu was interviewed by investigators, and according to the probable cause affidavit, he admitted to the argument with the victim and acknowledged holding the knife, with blood on his right hand. He confessed to stabbing her, based on what his wife had said, and allegedly confirmed the injury when questioned by officers.
Judge Fowler set Ndichu’s bail at $100,000, with conditions that include a no-contact order, a GPS ankle monitor, and the surrender of his passport if he is able to post bail. Additionally, an immigration hold is in place.
Ndichu’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 24.
As always, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
