HAZLETON, PA – A Hazleton man, Anthony Jordan Vega, 29, has been sentenced to 188 months (15 years) in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the distribution of fentanyl and other controlled substances in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.
Vega was part of a conspiracy to distribute these drugs between January 22 and his arrest on April 20, 2023. He managed a network of drug traffickers and co-conspirators, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
At the time of his arrest, authorities discovered 5,000 bags of fentanyl and additional contraband hidden in a stash house in Hazleton.
This case is a result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Scranton Safe Streets Task Force and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Another defendant, Alex Hernandez, 25, of Hazleton, was also indicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to federal drug charges in July.
Vega will serve his sentence followed by five years of supervised release. Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Olshefski prosecuted the case.
The sentence highlights ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in Pennsylvania, with authorities continuing to target criminal organizations involved in fentanyl distribution.
