In a major breakthrough, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested two individuals from Gujarat — Harpal Singh (50) and Saiyad Aiyub Bhai (50) — for allegedly conning a Hyderabad-based doctor of Rs3 crore by impersonating government officials in a scam known as “digital arrest.”
According to officials, the accused used sophisticated methods to convince the doctor she was under investigation and manipulated her into transferring the money under the guise of clearing legal formalities. This new wave of cyber fraud involves tricking victims through fake video calls or voice messages where scammers pose as law enforcement or regulatory officers.
The accused:
Harpal Singh – a home loan consultant
Saiyad Aiyub Bhai – a property dealer
Both are residents of Gujarat and are said to have been involved in 17 similar cyber fraud cases across India, with more cases now under investigation.
Police said the scam involved psychological pressure tactics and the impersonation of federal agencies to make the victims comply. In this case, the doctor believed she was being “digitally arrested” and complied with their instructions out of fear of legal consequences.
The arrests were made after technical surveillance and coordination with Gujarat police. The duo is now in custody and being interrogated to uncover the full scale of the operation and identify other members of the fraud network.
