A Village Development Officer (VDO), Rampal, posted in Laksar, Haridwar, was arrested by the Vigilance Department after an investigation revealed he had amassed disproportionate assets worth over Rs4.73 crore. The Vigilance team initiated the arrest after a detailed probe into his financial activities between 2007 and 2018. It was found that Rampal’s income during this period amounted to Rs1.5 crore, while his expenditure and assets far exceeded this amount, totaling over Rs6.23 crore.
Rampal, originally from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, could not justify the sources of his wealth despite owning several expensive properties, including multiple plots in Haridwar and Bulandshahr, a duplex in Ghaziabad, and luxury vehicles such as a Mercedes car, Hyundai car, Activa scooters, and a Bullet motorcycle. The assets were registered under his wife’s name, Poonam Singh, who also held significant property investments.
After failing to provide satisfactory answers during questioning, Rampal was arrested and presented before a Special Anti-Corruption Court in Dehradun. The court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, and further actions will be taken to trace any additional illegal assets or sources.
