The Accra Circuit Court has sentenced hairstylist Adwoa Nyarko to five years in prison for her role in a recruitment scam involving GH¢139,000. Nyarko was found guilty on four counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretenses.
Her accomplices, Nana Osei and Charles Kwame Damoah, are currently at large. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackon, who prosecuted the case, informed the court, presided over by Mrs. Ellen Ofei Ayeh, that Nyarko resides in Wenchi.
The prosecution presented that in September 2021, complainants Nana Yaw Barimah and Collins Atta Oteng reported the scam to the police. In 2020, Nyarko and her accomplices had solicited and received GH¢39,000 from the complainants, promising to secure employment for their relatives at the Ghana Revenue Authority, but they failed to deliver.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation that led to Nyarko’s arrest in Asankare, Ashanti Region. During interrogation, she admitted to taking money from the complainants to facilitate job placements for some residents of Asante-Akyem.
ASP Ackon added that Nyarko transferred the money to her accomplices, Osei and Damoah, who are still being sought by law enforcement. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend them to assist in the investigation.
