Habitual Thief Arrested in Itanagar, Stolen Gold Jewelry Recovered

In a major breakthrough, Itanagar Police arrested Toi Tamang, a habitual thief, after recovering stolen gold jewelry and other valuable items. The arrest followed a theft case reported by Ratan Kaman of D-Sector on July 31, who claimed that her government quarter was burgled, and several items, including gold jewelry, were stolen. The stolen items included a gold chain, gold ring, 8 gold earrings, and two gold nose pins.

A case was swiftly registered at the Itanagar Police Station. Following this, a special investigation team was formed, led by Officer-in-Charge Khiksi Yangfo, and Sub-Inspector Samuel Ngupok. The team focused on interrogating habitual criminals and strengthened their human intelligence network. During questioning, the name of Toi Tamang came to light. Tamang, who had previously escaped from police custody at Naharlagun Police Station on July 20, was thought to be evading electronic surveillance.

With the help of human intelligence, police zeroed in on Tamang’s whereabouts at Papu Nallah, where he was captured. Upon his arrest, he admitted to committing the theft, and based on his disclosure, police recovered a wide range of stolen items. These included a Canon digital camera, laptop, two watches, gold jewelry, and two mobile phones.

The police have successfully solved two house theft cases with the arrest of Tamang, recovering significant property. Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh commended the diligent work of the police team for their success in apprehending the accused and solving the crimes.
