Guwahati Police Arrest Four in Theft of AC Systems, Stolen Goods

In a recent operation, Guwahati police arrested three individuals and one receiver of stolen goods in connection with the theft of air conditioning systems and copper pipes from the Basistha Press Club office on AG Road, Krishnapur. The crime occurred during the night of January 19 and was reported by Bandan Gogoi, a member of the press club.

The arrested suspects—Safiqul Islam (34), Inamul Ali (19), and Minarz Ali (19)—were found in possession of burglary tools, including wrenches, a sly wrench, pliers, a screwdriver, a hammer, and an electric cutter. These tools were believed to have been used in the theft.

Upon investigation, the police recovered the stolen items from a dump in Patarkuchi. These items included a damaged air conditioner, a Tata Voltage AC cooler frame, an Intel sound box with four small speakers, an Anida air conditioner, two rolls of blue copper wire, and a manual three-wheeler rickshaw used for transporting the stolen goods. Additionally, the authorities recovered Rs 5,400 in cash.

Further inquiry led to the arrest of Ashma Khatun (55), a woman accused of receiving the stolen items. She was arrested from her home in Panjabari Bataghuli, under the jurisdiction of the Satgaon Police Station. All the suspects are scheduled to be presented in court on January 22.

In a separate incident, the Nagaon police had earlier arrested three individuals, including two medical students, who were involved in the theft of seven computers from Nagaon Medical College and Hospital.
