Gurugram Police Arrest Divya Shrivastava in Job Scam

The Gurugram Police have apprehended a man and a woman for deceiving numerous individuals by falsely promising them jobs in a pharmaceutical company. The accused, Divya Shrivastava (24) from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, and Prasoon Tiwari (31) from Siwan, Bihar, were arrested in the DLF Phase-III U-block area.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime) Priyanshu Dewan confirmed that the duo had defrauded at least six victims across different states, amassing a significant amount of money in a short span.

According to Dewan, the suspects specifically targeted individuals who were desperate for employment. They had only been operating in Gurugram for three days before their arrest but had already cheated two victims from Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh out of over Rs1 lakh.

Inspector Naveen Kumar, the Station House Officer of Cyber Crime (East), stated that the suspects’ location was tracked using the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ surveillance system. Before their operations in Gurugram, Shrivastava and Tiwari were based in Ambala, Punjab. Notably, Tiwari had a prior criminal record, having been arrested by Punjab Police for a similar offense just a few months earlier.

The couple’s modus operandi involved targeting individuals who had posted job requirements online. They convinced these unsuspecting job seekers to deposit money into their bank accounts, which they promptly withdrew after executing the scam.

During their arrest, police recovered Rs1.02 lakh in cash, a debit card, a mobile phone, and a SIM card used in their fraudulent activities. An FIR has been filed against Shrivastava and Tiwari under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Cyber Crime Police Station (East). The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details about this job scam.
