Guojing Chen Faces $100K Bail for Meth Trafficking

CNMI — A $100,000 cash bail has been set for Guojing Chen, also known as “Brother,” who is accused of selling methamphetamine in a monitored drug operation conducted by the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force (DETF).

Chen, 38, is facing serious charges, including trafficking a controlled substance and illegal possession of a controlled substance, after allegedly selling 10.09 grams of meth to a cooperating defendant for $1,000.

The transaction took place on April 17, during a “buy-walk” operation. DETF agents equipped the cooperating individual with an audio/video recording device and observed the exchange at a pre-arranged location. The substance, stored in a Ziploc bag, tested positive for methamphetamine.

At a bail hearing on Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed the $100K cash bail, citing that Chen also has seven unresolved traffic cases.

Chen appeared in court with Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig, while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds represented the government. A Chinese interpreter was also provided during the proceedings.

Chen has been remanded to the Department of Corrections and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 27 at 10 a.m., followed by an arraignment on June 30 at 9 a.m.
