On Monday, Guntur Police made significant progress in cracking down on criminal activities by busting two major rackets: a two-wheeler theft racket and an illegal ganja trade operation. The police arrested four individuals and recovered 22 stolen motorcycles and 24 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.4 lakh.
According to Guntur SP Satish Kumar, the police successfully arrested Velivolu Venkateswarlu (34) of Ratnagiri Colony, Guntur, and Moram Reddy Sita Reddy (38), a farmer from Lankelakurapadu, Palnadu district, in connection with the theft of 12 stolen motorcycles worth Rs 6 lakh. Venkateswarlu, a former government outsourcing employee and a B.Tech graduate, turned to vehicle theft after facing personal hardships. He allegedly used stolen documents from parked motorcycles to assess their resale value and listed the vehicles on OLX. His accomplice, Sita Reddy, assisted in selling the stolen bikes for a commission.
In another operation, police arrested Md Abdul Rasheed (25) from Tenali, and Challa Gopi (27) from Dasaripalem, Guntur district, after recovering 10 stolen motorcycles valued at Rs 5 lakh. The suspects were apprehended at Narakoduru Centre.
In addition, two other individuals were arrested for smuggling 24 kg of ganja, with the illicit contraband worth Rs 2.4 lakh being seized by the police.
These arrests and recoveries highlight the ongoing efforts of the Guntur Police in dismantling criminal networks involved in both vehicle theft and drug trafficking.
