In a significant drug bust on the night of March 4, 2025, the Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered and seized 34 packets of suspected cannabis (ganja), totaling 35.1 kg, from two passengers aboard a train at Guwahati Railway Station.
The seizure occurred at approximately 9:40 PM when GRP personnel conducted a routine check on Train No. 15909 DN Avadh Assam Express, which was traveling from Dimapur to New Delhi. The cannabis was found hidden inside three trolley bags in Coach No. H1.
The two accused passengers were identified as Kheboto V Muru (24 years), a resident of Ghokhuvi Village, Zunheboto District, Nagaland, and N. Hotolu Achumi (47 years), a resident of Thahekhu Village, Dimapur District, Nagaland.
Following the seizure, the GRP has initiated legal proceedings against the two under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is ongoing to trace the source and final destination of the illicit consignment.
This arrest is another major blow to drug trafficking via railway routes, with authorities staying on high alert to combat the illegal transportation of narcotics through the nation’s rail system.
