Miami, FL – Gregory Yearty, Jr., a 19-year-old convicted felon with a history of theft and burglary, was arrested on Tuesday for his role in an attempted carjacking in South Beach. The incident took place on September 26, when Yearty, armed with a gun, attempted to steal a black Rolls Royce SUV parked outside a restaurant. Two valet attendants working at the location intervened, but Yearty threatened to shoot them, forcing them to allow him to escape.
Yearty fled the scene in a gray Lamborghini Urus, which was being driven by 23-year-old Stevie Gaskin, Jr., who was later identified through GPS data and surveillance footage. The investigation into the carjacking spanned over two months and involved cooperation from several police departments. Miami Beach detectives relied on GPS tracking, surveillance video, and witness testimonies to locate and apprehend Yearty.
Along with Yearty, detectives identified 24-year-old Le-Sean Mountain, Jr. as the man responsible for renting the Lamborghini Urus used in the robbery attempt. According to police records, Mountain rented the vehicle from September 25-27, paying $3,500 for the rental. Mountain, a convicted felon, was arrested in Hollywood on December 3, facing multiple charges, including aggravated battery on a police officer and reckless driving.
Yearty, who has a criminal history dating back to his teenage years, was arrested and charged with attempted armed carjacking. A judge denied him bond, and he remains incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. Gaskin, who was tracked to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, faces charges for attempted carjacking. Mountain, who facilitated the crime, faces additional charges related to aggravated battery and probation violations.
The authorities have commended the collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies in solving the case, and the suspects now face a range of serious charges.
