Granite Falls Man Arrested for Burglary, Criminal Damage, and Possession of Ammunition

Pipestone, Minn. — Marshall Bejarano, 38, of Granite Falls, was charged with multiple felonies and a gross misdemeanor after an attempted burglary and standoff on Jan. 1, 2024, in Pipestone.

The incident began around 8 a.m. when a homeowner called the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office reporting an intruder attempting to enter their residence. The homeowner, who had been awakened by a noise, described seeing a man in a camouflage jacket sitting on the steps of their home. The intruder identified himself as “Marshall” but appeared confused about why he was there.

The homeowner, feeling threatened, called for another family member to assist, and the intruder ran deeper into the basement. Officers arrived at the scene and learned from another resident that the intruder had tampered with a gun cabinet and moved firearms and ammunition. The homeowner was unable to confirm whether all of their firearms were still present.

Given the potential danger of the situation, officers established a perimeter around the house. Every 10 minutes, they called out commands to the intruder but received no response. A special team (HEAT) arrived shortly after, deploying a drone and robot to survey the basement. They were unable to access two closed closets.

After further negotiations, deputies from the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office and the Murray County Sheriff’s Office made their way into the basement. They discovered the intruder, Bejarano, hiding in one of the closets, on top of boxes and decorations. When ordered to come out with his hands up, Bejarano refused to comply and was subsequently removed from the closet and taken into custody.

Bejarano now faces charges including first-degree burglary, entering an occupied dwelling, first-degree criminal damage to property, and possession of ammunition following a prior conviction.
