Ghanaian Man Wigbert Bandie Sentenced for $2M Romance Scam

Wigbert Bandie, a 34-year-old Ghanaian national, has been sentenced to over five years in prison in the United States for orchestrating a $2 million romance scam. Bandie used online dating sites and social media platforms to target elderly victims, forming relationships and then defrauding them of large sums of money.

As part of his sentence, Bandie is also required to pay approximately $2.2 million in restitution to the 11 victims he scammed. The case highlights the rising danger of romance scams, which disproportionately affect vulnerable individuals.
