George Burek Charged for Stealing $8,900 Using Stolen Identity

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, PA – A Connecticut man has been charged after allegedly stealing $8,900 from a victim’s account by using stolen identity information.

George Burek, 57, is accused of withdrawing the money from the United Federal Credit Union in Jackson Township on December 13, 2024. The transaction was carried out using identification cards that matched the victim’s personal information.

Authorities allege that Burek is part of a criminal organization involved in “customer impersonation crimes.” His involvement in the theft is believed to be linked to a larger network of criminals committing similar fraudulent activities.

In addition to Burek’s charges, Luis Cuascut, 63, the alleged leader of the criminal group, was arrested in Butler last month. Cuascut is facing charges in both Allegheny County and Michigan, and he is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail with denied bail.

Burek is facing multiple charges, including identity theft, criminal attempt, and forgery, in both Pennsylvania and Michigan.

This case highlights the ongoing threat of identity theft and the criminal organizations behind these crimes, emphasizing the need for vigilance when it comes to safeguarding personal information.
