In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Gandhinagar police arrested two individuals and seized 896 grams of marijuana during a raid at a shop in the Dehgam area on Saturday.
Acting on a specific tip-off, the SOG team conducted a raid at Ashok Watch Company, located in Sardar Shopping Center, Dehgam. The suspects, Ajitkumar Chauhan (47) and Ranjitkumar Chauhan (42), both residents of Lavar Chakla in Dehgam, were allegedly involved in the illicit trade of ganja.
The operation uncovered that the marijuana was carefully concealed in a secret wooden compartment at the back of the shop. A field test confirmed the seized substance was indeed marijuana.
Along with the marijuana, the officers also confiscated goods worth Rs35,750, including mobile phones, cash, and miscellaneous items, further indicating the scope of the suspects’ illicit business operations.
A case has been registered at Dehgam Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities have launched an in-depth investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify any potential links to a larger drug network.
A senior police official stated, “We received specific information regarding a watch shop in Dehgam involved in the sale of illegal substances. Following this tip-off, we set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed. During the investigation, we found that the accused had designed a secret compartment in the shop to hide the drugs.”
The police continue to investigate the case and are exploring possible connections to wider drug trafficking operations in the region.
