Gabriel Martinez Arrested After Fleeing Stolen Vehicle Crash in Broward

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – A 20-year-old man, Gabriel Martinez, was arrested after a dramatic pursuit and hours-long search following a crash involving a stolen vehicle in West Broward. Martinez is facing several serious charges, including aggravated assault on an officer, fleeing and eluding, grand theft, possessing burglary tools with intent to use, and driving with a suspended license.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday when Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers, with the help of other agencies, began searching for Martinez after he crashed the stolen vehicle on U.S. 27, north of Griffin Road. After the crash, Martinez fled the scene on foot, leading to a manhunt in the area.

Martinez was eventually apprehended and appeared before a judge on Thursday. During his court appearance, the judge set his bond at $28,500.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the charges Martinez faces carry significant legal consequences, particularly the aggravated assault charge, which stems from his actions towards law enforcement officers during the pursuit.

Martinez’s arrest highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat vehicle theft and related crimes in the region.
